Freshly ground pepper is a condiment that’s often taken for granted, until your mill stops working. It’s only then that many of us discover that the most durable, functional and stylish mills on the market are made by Peugeot and carry a very similar lion logo to the small hatchback sitting in the driveway.
Companies like Peugeot existed long before the development of the motor car. The Peugeot story reaches back to 1810 when two brothers began making a wide variety of mechanical items including sewing machines, watch and clock movements and even corset stays! They made their first coffee mill in 1840 and their first pepper mills in 1850. Peugeot pepper and salt mills have remained the standard by which all others are judged to this day. The strength of the mills combined with their pattern of teeth which first crush and split the peppercorns and then finely grind the broken pieces mean that a Peugeot mill will last a lifetime as many of our original customers at Steamer Trading will tell you.
The lure of the motor car proved too strong for one member of the Peugeot family at the start of the twentieth century who began making bicycles and other early powered vehicles. His company went on to make the cars that we know today while the original Peugeot company has thrived, producing the best mills that money can buy.
