The game of Scrabble was invented in 1933 in the depression era USA, by an out of work architect called Alfred Butts. Initially the game was not a success, but over the first years since its inception, the rules were simplified and it made slow but steady progress building fans and sales – until the early 1950’s when it really took off. Legend has it that the president of Macy’s discovered the game by chance whilst on holiday, and then championed the game through their own stores when he got back home. Within a year Scrabble became a massive hit and a ‘must-have’ game for all American households. To date over 100 million Scrabble games have sold in more than 121 countries. So earn yourself some points, use your imagination and add a touch of style to your home.
