The cathedral city of Chichester, set beside the sea and amongst the South Downs, is one of the most beautiful places to visit in England. For lovers of history, the town boasts strong Roman connections - the city’s layout, with North, South, East and West streets radiating from a central mediaeval cross – is inherited from those times. Culturally, Chichester is home to the prestigious Festival Theatre and the Pallant  House Gallery – and hosts an arts and music festival each year.

Situated close to Goodwood, home to England’s most beautiful racecourse and the popular Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival motor racing events, Chichester is a natural base for racing fans. For those preferring to get their feet wet, Chichester harbour and the beaches at the Witterings are close by. Or take a stroll in the countryside, where the South Downs Way passes the city.

If that wasn’t enough to tempt you to visit Chichester, the city also has its very own Steamer Trading Cookshop. Opened in 2007, our shop is right in the centre of town on a lovely (part) pedestrianized street. We’ve got two floors to tempt you with, packed full of the very best in kitchen and tableware. Backed up by proper, old-fashioned, real service and lots of expert knowledge, we’re the only place to visit in Chichester for the kitchen enthusiast.

Come and see us soon – you’ll be assured of a warm welcome, a reviving shot of espresso (just linger by our selection of working demonstration machines and we’ll teach you the secrets of perfect cappuccino) and as much advice as you could need. And don’t forget our price promise: as a family-run company, we’ll always take care of our customers. So if you see what you’re looking for at a lower price at another local store let us know – we’ll always do our best to match the price and beat the service!

How to find us

We’re at 69 South Street, Chichester PO19 1EE – just a few metres from the central market cross. The street is pedestrianised during the day (except for buses) but cars can get close to the shop from lower down South Street to collect purchases. For parking, Avenue de Chartres is close and has ample capacity – or try South Pallant or Baffins Lane, which are smaller but even closer. By train, Chichester station is a few minutes walk or there are local bus services. If you’ve walked across the South Downs to reach us, let us know and we’ll get the coffee on.

Access

The ground floor is all on one level with good access. There are (easy going) stairs to the first floor but no lift. However, our ever helpful staff are here to help so please let us know if you have any special requirements.

I enjoy learning about all the new cooking technologies and gadgets that are coming onto the market. And to get hands on with them all is even better!

- Kate Richings, Chichester Store Manager

My favourite items are:

Frying Pan
Scanpan is, in my opinion, the best-performing pan we sell in terms of performance, quality & cleaning and is virtually indestructible. I was remarkably impressed when I visited their factory in Denmark and was amazed at the sheer number of quality tests they do. I even got to cast my own pan - although I doubt it got very far in their quality testing…

Nespresso Pixie
Coming from a background as a barista, I was skeptical about capsule machines. After realising the quality & variety of blends and seeing consistency in every coffee with a strong aroma, it completely won me over. The Pixie in particular, with its eco-friendly features and small footprint, fits perfectly in my kitchen!

Kai Shun Knives
Stunning Japanese 64-layer Damascus steel with an ergonomic handle. Has a fantastic edge that sharpens easily. Definitely a knife that needs to be well displayed.
