We opened our Glasgow Store in December 2013 – just in time for Christmas! Standing on the Scottish cobbles that make up Gordon Street, the store is a stone’s throw away from Glasgow’s premier shopping thoroughfare of Argyle Street and is surrounded by fantastic restaurants, museums and architecture, notably the Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum and the stunning glass-walled railway bridge known locally as Hielanman's Umbrella.
Glasgow is Scotland’s biggest and most populous city that grew from a small settlement on the River Clyde which happens to be in walking distance from our Gordon Street store. Capitalising on this, the city has a proud shipbuilding and marine engineering history and also became an international centre for textiles and printing during the Industrial Revolution. Today, Glasgow still benefits from it’s two major shipyards but now offers a diverse array of stunning cultural attractions and hosts some dazzling buildings which contribute to it’s recognition as the UK’s City of Architecture and Design.
Our Glasgow store was a new adventure for Steamer Trading being our first branch outside the humble borders of England and far removed from our modest beginnings in the more remote parts of Sussex! But bursting with every kitchen tool imaginable and featuring a striking vaulted ceiling in the basement floor, our Glasgow branch echoes the Aladdin’s Cave feel experienced when first walking into our Alfriston store back in 1985.
How to find us
We’re just around the block from Glasgow Central Station and Princes Square Shopping Centre, located at 35-39 Gordon Street - not far from the neighbouring Argyle Street. If you’re visiting us by car, we can be found just off Junction 19 on the M8. Parking can prove difficult in the City Centre but there are numerous municipal car parks in the area. The City is served by the extensive Metro underground rail network with nearby stations at St Enoch and Buchanan Street and also regular bus services reaching all parts of Glasgow.
Our Glasgow store is fully accessible for those with limited mobility with both floors being served by stairs and a lift which can accommodate prams, buggies and wheelchairs/scooters. Should any other access challenges arise, our staff will always be happy to assist.
You can call us during store opening hours, or email or write to us using the details below - or, of course, you can come in and see us – we’ll always make you welcome!
